Group exhibition featuring: Chris Robson and Sabine Simons
Retrospective Views is a group exhibition that will be held at The Deer Lake Gallery featuring the work of Chris Robson and Sabine Simons. Retrospective Views is hosted and organized by The Burnaby Arts Council. The exhibition will open Saturday November 5th, 2016 and run until November 26th.
Retrospective is a unique combination of traditional and non-traditional techniques that find their origins in the historic aspects of our society. Impressionism is the core sensibility of Robson’s work although there is a clear element of the naïve as well. His use of reduction printing and pencil drawings has been honed over the many successful years of his career, but clearly still harbours a certain social criticism of the real within its expression, that was also clearly present in the impressionist oeuvre. His work has the rhythms of music and a simpler society freed of the idioms of the current day. Robson resides in the North West Territories and member of the Malaspina Printmakers Society. Simons approaches the subject matter of the past in a more current expression as she makes use of all manner of modern mediums. Image transfer, collage, resin among others have all been used to bridge the past and the present. Simons, having grown up in the old world of Leipzig Germany, is culturally aware of the youth of the West Coast of Canada. Highlighting the architectural aspects of Burnaby with her intuitive process, she adds beautiful vivid colour and forms to the subject matter. Simons is a resident of Vancouver and Partner at Arts Off Main Gallery.
Please join us for the opening reception of Retrospective Views that will be held November 5th, 2016 between 2-4pm at the Deer Lake Gallery.
