Between Land and Sky is a group exhibition that will be held at The Deer Lake Gallery featuring the work of many of the members of The Vancouver Sketch Club. The exhibition Between Land and Sky is hosted and organized by The Burnaby Arts Council. The exhibition will open Saturday August 13th, 2016 and run until September 3rd.
The Vancouver Sketch club was formed in 1952 by the then curator of the Vancouver Art Gallery. It was originally designed to give downtown businessmen an opportunity to sketch and socialize. The name was legally changed in 1992 when women were also welcomed. Sketching is just a small part of what this talented group achieves. Water colour, oils, acrylics, are among the mediums used. The work is in the classical tradition. Everyday subjects and stunning landscapes focus on techniques and materials, in which their art is executed, uses clear formal rules and refer to social reality. Exploring the concept of everyday life in a nostalgic way, the work presented deals with the documentation of events that is subjectively presented to the viewer. Seemingly mundane subject matter come alive with the colourful depictions by each artist.
The group of artists include: Biluvia Freigang, Claudette Fleming, Elsa Hubatka Lange, Eva Wideman, Jocelyn Noel, Judith Fairwood, Maria de Menyhurt, Monique Terrillon, Piroj Amrolia, Sonia Mocnik, Taylore Co, Zenobia Turnbull
Please join us for the opening reception of Between Land and Sky that will be held August 13th, 2016 between 2-4pm at the Deer Lake Gallery.
