“Well why isn’t there a group in Burnaby?” wondered Ingeborg Raymer.
In the late 1960s Raymer realized that this vibrant and growing community was lacking an accessible gathering space for local artists. So she set out on a mission, making flyers and calling meetings, to gather up the best creative minds in the city. 43 people showed up to the first meeting, and there, the Burnaby Artists Guild was established.
It’s been 50 years and they have painted their way into the Burnaby history books. Having reached this milestone year, the Deer Lake Art Gallery is hosting a 50th anniversary showcase of the Burnaby Artists Guild. This exhibition will be a collection of works by Guild members, featuring artists from a diverse range of skills, perspectives, and mediums, across generations. Join us in celebrating the Golden Year of the Burnaby Artists Guild.
Burnaby Artists Guild is a nonprofit organization formed in 1970 dedicated to supporting the appreciation and development of the visual arts both among its members and in the community. The goal of the Guild is to encourage and inspire its members’ development through weekly sessions, artist demos, workshops and critiques. The membership ranges from amateur to professional artists who work in a wide variety of painting styles and subject matter. In addition, the Guild provides an opportunity for its members to exhibit and sell their artwork at their annual spring and fall show and at other venues.
Please join us for the opening reception on February 1, 2020 from 12 pm – 4 pm. Artists will be in attendance with refreshments and snacks will be provided
